Black Ops 6 Bad or Good?

Overview of the game’s reviews and first impressions.

Black Ops 6 first weekend has passed, let’s dive into an overview of the game’s reviews and first impressions.

Positives

Campaign is much better than previous Call of Duty releases, IGN even rated it with a 9/10 and a 8.1 user review score. While MW II received an 8 and MW III last year only a 4/10. The campaign is actually satisfying and even terrifying at times.

Zombies seem to be an overall hit. It has two completely new maps that are well setup, Terminus a former prison turned into a bio research lab and Liberty Falls a small town in West Verginia.

In Zombies and Multiplayer the omnimovement aspect is well received by most players. Chaining sprints, slides, dives in every direction. Let’s see how it plays out once the sweats figure out all the optimal loadouts and start flying around the maps.

The classic Prestige system, many players are happy about the classic prestige system returning, tapping into nostalgia, sense of achievement and community status it brings to the game.

PS. Even Shroud seemed to be actually enjoying the game.

Negatives

Multiplayer maps, players have expressed dissatisfaction with the maps largely due to issues in design and innovation. Many feel that the maps are too small and lack diversity, leading to repetitive gameplay that limits strategic depth. Additionally, skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) intensifies the experience, with players feeling that the maps don’t provide enough variety to offset highly competitive matches. While the new movement system adds fluidity, some argue it doesn’t integrate well with certain map layouts, further diminishing the gameplay experience.

Spawn points, frequent occurrences of spawning too close to your previous death, in sight of the player who killed them, or in the same spot repeatedly. These flawed spawn points lead to frustrating situations, like instantly dying to spawn campers. Despite years of data to refine the mechanics, the new maps seem to suffer from unusually problematic spawns

And lastly, It’s not Black Ops 3

Statistics

Some statistics about the release weekend.

Twitch:

- Watch Hours: 8,390,918

- Peak Viewers: 395k vs. 198k last year on release day

- Streamers: 71,063 unique channels streaming the game

We only have active player stats from steam charts, which is very limited, but it seems that the peak of 306k players is well above the peak of 262k players when MWII released in 2022 and above last’s years MWIII peak of 190k players.
